Okudzeto Ablakwa appointed to Chair Committee on Assurances

Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, North Tongu constituency Member of Parliament (MP) has been appointed as the Chairperson for Committee on Assurances of Parliament.

Expressing publicly about his appointment, he shared “I am most humbled by Parliament’s decision to make me Chairman of the Committee on Government Assurances.

“This is another call to render diligent, patriotic, meaningful, honest and uncompromising parliamentary oversight in the supreme national interest.

He continued by calling on the public and his followers to share matters they will want the committee to prioritize.

“I am happy to hear from you all on the matters you will want our committee to prioritize — specifically, on the government assurances and pledges you wish for us to urgently pursue.”

“We must all help make Ghanaian democracy benefit everyone and not just a select few.”

“With your support, we shall succeed together,” Okudzeto Ablakwa added.”

The mandate of the Committee on Assurances under the new Standing Orders of Parliament are as follows

Members of Committee on Assurances: Composition of the Committee on Assurances

(1) The Committee on Assurances comprises a Chairperson, a Ranking Member and not more than thirteen other Members.

(2) The Committee is chaired by a Member who does not belong to the party or parties that form the Government.

Duties of Committee on Assurances: Mandate of the Committee on Assurances

The Committee shall:

(a) pursue the execution of every assurance, promise and undertaking made to Parliament by Ministers, Committee Chairpersons, Members and other State functionaries; and

(b) report to the House on the fulfilment of the assurances, promises and undertakings by persons referred to in paragraph (a).
