Peace Council Should Keep Quiet if they Cannot be Neutral – Sam George
The Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram constituency Hon. Sam Nartey George has in an interview said that the National Peace Council should keep quiet if they cannot be neutral in dealing with the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party.
In an interview on TV3, the Hon Sam George indicated that, the National Peace Council must maintain neutrality semblance of fairness at all times but it appears that the council is beginning to show traces of partisanship.
He explained that in 2015, when the then opposition New Patriotic Party raised issues about the voter’s register, the comment of the council at the time was that, the electoral commission for fairness should listen to the then opposition NPP, but now that the opposition NDC is raising issues with the same register, the peace council now sets a different marking scheme and says that they should leave the EC because they are independent.

He said “The peace council must maintain neutrality semblance of fairness at all times. Am worried hearing the calls by the current general secretary of the of the peace council saying that no body should worry the electoral commission and that the electoral commission should be allowed to do their work bit that would have been a fair call if the same peace council in 2015 when the then opposition raised issues about a register just like the current opposition has raised issues about the register, their comments at the time was the the electoral commission for fairness should listen to the then opposition. So when it was the New Patriotic Party raising issues, the peace council thought that the Electoral commission had a responsibility to listen to them and give them a fair hearing for fairness. The same peace council when issues of procurement came up against madam Charlotte Osei said madam Charlotte Osei and all her commissioners should resign so that investigations can be done without them interfering and when the NDC raises issues with the register, the peace council now sets a different marking scheme and says that leave the Electoral Commission alone, they are independent. It is this level of Hippocracy that will lead people to say the peace council that should be not partisan is beginning to show traces of partisanship. I plead with them for the sake of the democracy we practice, if they cannot be neutral, they should keep quite.”
