Police issue update on Fuel Tanker Fire at Kaase, Asokwa in Kumasi

On Friday, January 21, 2022, at about 3:15 pm, the Police received information of a fuel tanker that had caught fire at Kaase, a suburb of Kumasi.

Preliminary investigation has established that the driver of Daf tanker number AS 2531-19 was discharging fuel to some tricycle riders and in the process caught fire. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service managed to bring the fire under control. The Police were at the scene to ensure free flow of traffic, provide security to the officers and the motoring public and secure the scene from any interference.

No fatalities have so far been recorded. However, about 40 wooden structures were burnt.

The truck driver and the tricycle riders escaped the scene and have gone into hiding. Meanwhile, the Police are doing everything possible to effect their arrest.

“We would like to urge everyone to desist from engaging in activities that have the potential to put the lives of the general public at risk.” The Police statement said.
