President Mahama directs Ato Forson and Kofi Buah to act as Defence and Environment Ministers
His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Finance Minister, Hon. Ato Forson and the Hon. Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah to act as Defence and Environment Ministers until further notice, following the demise of the two (2) substantive Ministers in Wednesday’s (August 6, 2025) fatal helicopter incident at Adansi, Ashanti Region.

President John Dramani Mahama has asked the Minister for Finance, Hon Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, to take on additional responsibility as Defence Minister. The President has also asked the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, to act as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology until further notice. This follows the tragic demise of the substantive Ministers for Defence and Environment, Science and Technology, in yesterday’s fatal helicopter crash on their way to an event in Obuasi.

The following individuals have been confirmed dead after the tragic Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash en route to Obuasi on Wednesday, August 6, 2025:

Ghana mourns the loss of eight men who lost their lives in a helicopter crash. Less than 12 hours after the heart-wrenching news, President Mahama announced that all flags are to be flown at half-mast to mourn the loss of the heroes on their way to launch the government programme at Obuasu Black Park.
