The Minister of State in charge of tertiary education and a former Pro-vice-chancellor of the University of Ghana Professor Kwesi Yankah  who is also member of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences has been elected as an honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences founded in 1780 is dedicated
to honoring excellence and leadership,
working across disciplines and divides, and
advancing the common good. Members of
the Academy represent today’s innovative
thinkers in every field and profession,
including more than two hundred and fifty
Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners.

Some notable members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences include George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Martin Luther King. International members include Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill and Nelson Mandela among others.

The Induction weekend is currently scheduled for October 9-11, 2020, pending guidance from US public health officials.
