Professor George Amoako Biography
Prof. George Amoako
Prof. George Amoako is a Professor in Physics and Materials Science at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.
He was born on 1st December, 1971 at Kyebi, Sekyere Central, Ashanti Region.
He had his primary education at Kyebi Methodist Primary School. He enrolled at Techiman Secondary School in 1985 and completed in 1990.
He attended Obuasi Secondary Technical School for his Advanced Level Studies.
Professor George Amoako was admitted into the University of Cape Coast for his first degree in 1994 where he graduated with BSc. (Hons.) Physics.
He offered National Service as a teacher at the Presbyterian Secondary School at Bechem in 1999.
He later worked as a Science teacher at Kumasi Methodist Day Senior High School.
Professor George Amoako was appointed lecturer at UCC in 2006. He was promoted to the rank of Senior Lecturer in 2013.
He was awarded the Jiangsu University President’s scholarship to pursue a doctorate programme in Materials Science in Jiangsu University, Zhengjiang, China from 2010-2014.
Professor George Amoako was appointed as Head, Department of Physics from 2018-2023
He completed the supervision of two M.Phil students and supervised five PhDs. Professor George Amoako served as Casford Hall Tutor
He was promoted to full Professor in 2020. He is a devout member of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. Professor George Amoako is married with four children
He received his BSc. (Physics) from University of Cape Coast and MSc. (Physics) Degree from the University of Stuttgart in Germany between 2003-2005 before eventually receiving his PhD (Materials Science and Engineering) from Jiangsu University, China in 2014.
He serves as the Head of Department for the Department of Physics.
Prof. Amoako is working on how to recycle discarded polyethylene containers and coconut fibres and shells. He has published papers on some findings in this research.
In addition to teaching and research, he has also reviewed manuscripts for some journals and is also an avid supporter for the Ghana National Men’s football team the Black Stars.
He is currently a resident of Cape Coast with his wife and children.
He also delivered his inaugural lecture on the topic: “DNA Origami: Template for Patterning Nanostructures,” in 2023.
