Prosecution of electoral related offences is a challenge to the Police Administration – IGP

The Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh has stated that prosecution of electoral related offences has been one of the challenges of the Police Service, especially Police Prosecutors.
The IGP disclosed this while speaking at the launch of legal education on prosecution of electoral related offences, for Police Management Board Members and selected Senior Police Officers from the Police Headquarters, Accra and Tema Police Commands.

The legal education on prosecution of electoral related offences was launched at the Police Headquarters on 18th August, 2020 aimed at equipping Police Officers at various levels of command, Police Prosecutors and Investigators with the requisite knowhow to successfully identify, arrest and prosecute persons who commit electoral offences.

The legal education on prosecution of electoral related offences came off after the brutality and electoral violence witness in the just ended compilation of a new voter’s register by the Electoral Commission of Ghana at some registration centres in Ghana ahead of the December 2020 polls.
