READ: Osenase M/A JHS Elections get Ghanaians talking

Osenase M/A JHS “A&B” popularly know as Great Adusco located in the West Akim Municipality has elected school prefects for the 2022/23 academic year.

It has always been the norm when form 3 students reach their final year, the form 2 students are elected to steer affairs in the school to enable the form 3s have enough time for their books to excel in the BECE.

Great Adusco, a school known in the municipality in terms of academic work has chopped success for the past years in the BECE with 100% record each year.
Headmistress of the noble school, Madam Matilda Owusu Asabea together with her able teachers organized the election to help teach students how to vote in a general election.

The school authorities sorted for electoral materials which included Voting Screen (2), Ballot Box (2), Stamp pad (2), Indelible ink (2), and Demarcation tape (2) after going through the necessary procedures from Electoral Commission of Ghana – West Akim Municipal.

The aspirants went through the normal election procedures, after picking forms, they were vetted by the Adusco Election Committee (Mr Annor Isaac, Mr Ahenkorah Raphael and Madam Mary Frempong)
The aspirants read their manifesto which included brilliant ideas from the students geared towards improving teaching and learning in the school. They were given time to campaign to sell out their manifesto to win votes.

Students were also taken through the process of voting in an election by experienced teachers who doubled up as electoral officers who have worked with the electoral commission of Ghana for a long time. Mr Adu Michael, Mr Asare Felix Ofosu and Mr Bismark Osafo –

If this practice is adopted by all schools in Ghana, it will help reduce the number of spoilt ballot papers the country records during National elections as students might have had a first had experience of how election and voting is done.
