Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the wife of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has vowed to refund all monies paid to her as allowances since the New Patriotic Party government came to power in January 2017 to date.

The First Lady Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo has noted that, her office, in consultation with the President of the Republic, has decided to refund all monies paid to her as allowances from the date of the President’s assumption of office, i.e., from January 2017 to date.

The First Lady has also decided not to accept any monies that have been allocated to be paid to her pursuant to the recommendations of the Ntiamoa-Baidu Committee, as approved by Parliament.”

Her decision to abrugate the payment of salary offer and subsequent refund of all allowances paid her came as a result of the public outcry in the midst of economic hardship been faced under the Presidency of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

She clarified that, though, payment of such allowances existed and have been paid to former first ladies under the 4th Republic before she became first lady, her office will wholeheartedly refund all allowances paid to her under the said provisions.

According to her, she will refund an amount of GH¢899,097.84 to the Ministry of Finance, thus; monies paid to her as allowances.
