John Richard Jeanneret, a Canadian television and radio personality who served as the play-by-play announcer for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League and their broadcast network, the Sabres Hockey Network. He was the NHL’s longest-serving play-by-play commentator, beginning his career with the team on the radio during the team’s second season in 1971–72 and retiring after the 2021–22 campaign.

During the 1995–96 season, he switched to television, and in the 1997–98 campaign, he started splitting his time between radio and television play-by-play. Within the Sabres organization and among close friends, he was referred to as “RJ”

At Toronto’s CHUM, Jeanneret’s career began off-air. In order to get on the air, Jeanneret attended seminars at the Midwest Broadcasting School in Chicago, which he referred to as a “crash course” in broadcasting. After earning his degree, he was hired by CKLY in Lindsay, Ontario, as a disc jockey. Then he was employed by CHVC in Niagara Falls, which ultimately became CJRN. When Edd Felstead, the Niagara Falls Flyers Junior A hockey team’s regular announcer, fell ill in 1963, Jeanneret stepped over.
