Information picked by us suggest that, ten (10) 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates have perished in a capsized boat while returning from their Headteacher’s farm.
According to the information, the students were crossing the Malkpal River in Saboba of the Northern Region where the boat suddenly capsized.
Reports available indicated that, thirty (30) students were on board while crossing the River before the sad incident occurred.
Twenty (20) of the students managed to swim to safety while ten (10) lost their lives.

Sources further confirmed that, seven (7) out of ten (10) bodies were retrieved from the River by a Search Team.
The 7 retrieved bodies are said to have been deposited at the Yendi Government Hospital while a search is still ongoing for the remaining three (3).

Saboba Police Preliminary investigation said, the students were returning from their Headteacher’s farm and got drown in the River.
According to Saboba Police, they have commenced investigations into the incident leading to the capsized boat.
