School Feeding Programme fee will increase from Gh¢1 to Gh¢2 and further rise in future – Ato Forson
Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister of Finance, has disclosed at a meeting held with the UK in Ghana High Commissioner, H.E. Harriet Thompson, and her team that the School Feeding Programme will increase from Gh¢1.00 to Gh¢2.00 and further rise in the future.
The meeting took place in the early hours of Thursday, March 27, 2025 morning.
According to Hon. Ato Forson, their discussions focused on Ghana’s economic outlook, fiscal policies, and key social interventions outlined in the 2025 Budget.

The Finance Minister outlined the social safety net programs prioritised by the government and added that they would ensure resources are directed to where they are needed most for complete success.
“As a social democratic government, we recognise the challenges we have faced, but our commitment to protecting the most vulnerable remains strong.”
“That is why we have prioritised social safety net programs, ensuring that resources are directed where they are needed most:”
• The School Feeding Programme will see an increase from 1 cedi to 2 cedis, with the ambition to raise it further in the future.
• LEAP (Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty) payments are also being increased to provide more relief to beneficiaries.
• By uncapping the NHIS Levy, GETFund, and other statutory funds, we are freeing up resources to enable these institutions to fully execute their mandates.
H.E. Harriet Thompson commended the government’s forward-looking budget and emphasized the importance of Ghana’s fiscal measures.
She also reaffirmed the UK’s willingness to support our efforts, particularly in climate finance, as we set up a dedicated division to drive sustainable economic initiatives.
