SOGASCO 94 batch cuts sod to construct 6-unit classroom block for Avegorme Basic

The 1994 year batch of Sogakope Senior High School (SOGASCO) has cut sod for the construction of a 6-unit classroom block for the Agave-Avegorme D/A Basic School in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region.

The leader of the team, Mr. Duncan Titiati speaking at the ceremony said, four months ago, they saw pictures of the dilapidated nature of the school on social media with some community folks appealing for help. According to him, the group thought it wise to give back to the community by constructing a 6-unit classroom block so as to improve upon the academic works in the area.

“We Want to provide a seriene environment for all children of school going age in Agave-Avegorme, a suburb of Sogakope to have free access to quality education. As part of the social interventions of SOGASCO 1994 year group, we have decided to give our first birth to Avegorme Community.” Mr. Duncan Titiati told Coverghana.com.gh

The group wants the Avegorme Community to provide effective communal labour throughout the period of construction hence from beginning to the end. Mr. Titiati noted that, in terms of funding, they will provide everything to ensure the project is completed on time.

He further said, they have given themselves one year duration to complete the 6-unit classroom block with office complex. He has emphasized that, by June 2022, the project will be commissioned and handed over to the Community for use.

The Zikpuitor Dafliso Ketorkavi, Stool Father of Togbe Kavi of Avegorme has appealed to the people of Agave-Avegorme Community to support the contractor and the donors to ensure a successful completion of the project. “Let’s be determined and devote our time towards the project.” He said.

The Contractor Mr. Kennedy Ametorglo assured the community of quality work, a first class classroom block with auxiliary facilities.

In an interview, Mr. Emmanuel Mensah Kwabla Vadze, the School Management Committee (SMC) Chairman of Agave-Avegorme D/A Basic School, on behalf of the school expressed his appreciation to the SOGASCO 1994 year batch for their kind gestures.

He indicated that, the school needs additional classroom block for the Junior High School and teachers bungalow. According to him, the bungalow when constructed will help the teachers stay in the community to effectively and smoothly perform their duties.

The community has therefore pledged to provide constant labour for the construction of the classroom block.

For many years, the Agave-Avegorme D/A Basic School has been battling with a dilapidated classroom shade constructed by the community. According to the residents, all efforts to get the government of Ghana to construct a befitting classroom block for the school to replace the dilapidated one have failed.

The community has to resort to relying on donors and philanthropist to support them get the problems fixed.

In March 2021, the Pencils of Promise (PoP), an education-focused Non-Governmental Organisation and the Marie Vivian Dogbe Foundation have teamed up to provide the Avegorme Community with a 3-unit classroom block, an office, a storeroom and a 6-unit toilet facility.

The partnership between PoP and the Marie Vivian Dogbe Foundation in Avegorme follows an intervention by Stan Dogbe and Hon. Wisdom Kobena Mensah Woyome, the Member of Parliament for the area, when reports of the deplorable state of the Avegorme DA Basic School came to the fore.
