SOGASCO attack: Hon. Maxwell Lukutor cautions students of COMBOTECH and SOGASCO

Hon. Maxwell K. Lukutor, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the South Tongu constituency in the upcoming 2024 General Election has cautioned students of COMBOTECH and SOGASCO after the viral spread of the attack launched by COMBOTECH students on SOGASCO students.

Over the past two (2) weeks, there have been regrettable incidents of violent confrontations between students of Comboni Vocational Technical Institute (COMBOTECH) and Sogakope Senior High School (SOGASCO) and I had the unfortunate and the unpleasant duty to engage Joynews and other national media houses in briefing or answering questions on what’s obviously embarrassing.
These confrontations have resulted in the destruction of school property, physical assaults, and harm to individuals, resulting in the arrest and detention of students who are supposed to be learning and other accomplices.
Such behavior is unacceptable and goes against the values of discipline and respect that we strive to uphold in our educational institutions. We are supposed to be preparing ourselves to become leaders of tomorrow.
As a former student, a leader of the Old Students Association, and a parliamentary candidate for the Constituency, I urge all students of COMBOTECH and SOGASCO to immediately cease all acts of violence and misconduct. It is crucial that you prioritize discipline, peaceful coexistence, and a commitment to learning.
Remember that your actions not only reflect upon yourselves but also upon your schools and the wider community.
To the old students of both schools, I implore you to serve as positive role models for the current students. Your behavior and attitudes can greatly influence the actions of those who are currently enrolled.
Please demonstrate the values of restraint, tolerance, responsibility, and integrity that we expect from all members of our school communities.
Furthermore, I call upon all stakeholders, including parents, teachers, community leaders, and the local authorities, to support efforts to enhance security measures in and around our two schools. It is essential that we work together to prevent further incidents of violence and to create a safe and conducive teaching and learning environment for all students and staff.
Lastly, I want to emphasize that any student or old students found engaging in violent or disruptive acts will face appropriate disciplinary action.
Teachers are directed to enforce discipline firmly and fairly to maintain order and ensure the well-being of all students.
