South Tongu: Armed robbers attack residents, one person killed and one injured

Some unknown persons believed to be armed robbers have attacked some residents within the South Tongu District of the Volta Region.

According to reports, on Tuesday, 6th April, 2021, there was an armed robbery incidence on Tordzinu-Dorkploame road, near Tordzenu around 6:30pm where one Mr. Francis Kwaku Dey was shot and killed instantly and all his money, mobile phone and other items were taken away by the robbers.

Information picked by Coverghana.com.gh confirmed that, at the same place Mr. Francis Kwaku Dey was shot dead, another person called Mr. Israel Nanenu was also attacked few minutes after the first incident by the same gangs, tortured him and took away ten (10) mobile phones, over GH¢13,000 and other valuable items.

In an interview with the Assembly Member for Dorkploame Electoral Area, Hon. Christian Dzifa Tordzro who confirmed the incident said, he was called around 7:05pm on Tuesday after the incident happened, that, some unknown armed robbers have attacked people within his Electoral Area.

Narrating the issue, he said, the incident happened on Tordzinu-Dorkploame Feeder road and about 4 kilometers away from Tordzinu.

He clarified that, the deceased (native of Klotekpo-Dorkploame) was moving from Akatsi to his village Klotekpo-Dorkploame where he was shot on his motorbike by the armed robbers to death.

According to him, the second person, Mr. Israel Nanenu, an MTN, Vodafone and Airtel Merchant Vendor who closed from Akatsi Market around 5:45 pm and was moving to his Village, Gowenu-Dorkploame saw the motorbike of the deceased who bypassed him on the way lying in the middle of the road with traffic indicators working without anyone around. He decided to stop, thinking that, the person might have been involved in an accident.

Suddenly, immediately, he slowed down to ascertain what might have been happening, three young men from the bush rushed on him with gun asking him to knee down and hand over his bag to them. He wanted to resist but, they attacked him and took the bag with all his money and mobile phone away.

Currently, the body of the deceased is at St. Paul Hospital Mortuary in the Akatsi South District for postmorterm while the second person has been discharged yesterday night to continue his treatment at home.
