The reasons why the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has banned the importation of chicken and other Poultry Products from some countries in Europe has been revealed.
In the notice from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the ministry indicated that it has placed a ban on the importation of day old chicks, hatching eggs, frozen chicken, poultry products and poultry feed from the following European countries with immediate effect; Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Denmark and the United Kingdom.
The ban on the importation of Poultry Products from the European countries followers the outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza subtype HSNB in Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Denmark and United Kingdom.
The notice from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture also added that permits that were issued to importers to import Poultry Products from the above listed European countries have been rendered invalid with immediate effect.
Importers are to note that all import permits that were issued for such consignment from Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Denmark and United Kingdom have been rendered invalid with immediate effect.
