Trade Ministry unveils West Africa fashion consortium Ghana to foster collaboration & global market access for designers

The West Africa Fashion Consortium Ghana was officially launched in Accra on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, to drive innovation, sustainability, and economic empowerment within the region’s fashion industry.

In his address, Deputy Minister for Trade Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Sampson Ahi, representing the Hon. Minister, stressed the importance of integrating the fashion sector into Ghana’s broader economic transformation. He urged the consortium to focus on value addition, ethical production practices, and creating job opportunities for women and youth.

The consortium’s mission is to promote collaboration among designers, producers, and entrepreneurs, facilitating connections to both regional and global markets.

Madam Awurabena Okra, President of the West Africa Fashion Consortium Ghana, highlighted the platform’s aim of uniting the fashion value chain while providing small businesses with the tools and networks needed to thrive.

This initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to expand non-traditional exports and foster industrial growth, marking a significant step in the transformation of Ghana’s economy.
