TTAG Releases Election Modalities for 2023/2024 TTAG Year

The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has released the Election Modalities for 2023/2024 TTAG leadership.

TTAG EC has informed trainees of the accredited 46 colleges of education and all their stakeholders that nomination has been officially opened for the 2023/2024 TTAG year.

MODALITIES FOR ELECTION OF 2023/2024 TTAG LEADERSHIP

ARTICLE 9 (1); Membership

Every student in a recognized College of Education in Ghana which is approved by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and TTAG shall be a member of TTAG.

In view of this, all National, Sector, and Local Officers must be students of the Colleges of Education with exception of Coordinator, PRM, and Administrator who must be newly trained teachers. With reference to the above preamble, the association’s E.C wishes to set the 2023/2024 modalities that shall be used for the National election as follows;

MODALITIES

1. An aspirant must purchase a form from the Electoral Commission.

2. Forms purchased should be filled and submitted to the electoral commission not later than 11:59 pm of Monday 18th March 2024. Forms and other supporting documents should be submitted to the EC through ecttag@gmail.com

3. Aspirant must have a good standing (no bad record from his or her training institution, former school, or community)

4. An aspirant must provide;

• Student’s ID
• Any National Identification Card
• A well-developed CV
• A recommendation letter
• An academic transcript

5. There will be a closed-door vetting and aspirant may provide at least 3 witnesses from at least 2 different Sectors.

6. The pass score for the President, Coordinator, and Secretary will be 65% or more. However, the pass score for all other candidates at the vetting will be 60% more.

7. Vetting will commence immediately after the opening ceremony.

8. All aspirants appearing for vetting shall pay GH¢50.00 as commitment.

9. All prospective aspirants are being reminded about the provision of Article 39 Clause 5 of the TTAG constitution.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Article 39 clause S states that Any local TTAG Executive or Sector Executive who wishes to contest for a position of the National Secretariat shall resign in a letter addressed to the President”

• All candidates will present a detailed working document (Manifesto) to delegates.
• Aspirants for the coordinator and PRM will prepare and give their manifesto in an extemporaneous
  manner.
• Candidates for national president shall present their manifesto in a debate form.
• All candidates reading manifesto shall be allowed to answer a minimum of 4 questions and a maximum of 6 questions.

11. All aspirants must campaign devoid of denigration.

12. All accredited delegates shall be allowed to vote.

13. An observer shall have no voting right however, he or she can be voted for.

14. There shall be no proxy voting.

15. Any aspirant who gives false information or goes against any of the above modalities shall be disqualified.

16. With the exception of the National Vice President portfolio, all aspirants are to concern themselves solely with matters of the TTAG National Electoral Commission. For the avoidance of doubt, there shall be no vetting or elections (Primaries) for national aspirants at the sector level.

17. An aggrieved delegate or candidate has the right to petition the E.C not later than an hour after the declaration of the vetting results as stated in Article 43 (1)

As stated in Article 39 (1-3), the following categories of students shall qualify for the following positions as stated below:

9. Women’s Commissioner

Requirement -4th Year Student

10. Public Relations Manager

Requirement -Newly Trained Teacher

11. Coordinator

Requirement -Newly Trained Teacher (Former NEC Member)

12. Administrator

Requirement -Newly Trained Trained Teacher (By Appointment)

NB: Former NEC Members include current members of the National Executive Council.
