UCC introduces new special supplementary/resit examinations for students

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has introduced a new special supplementary/resit examinations for students.
Management of the University in a release stated that following the Academic Board’s approval for the conduct of special supplementary/resit examinations for levels 200 and 300, the Teaching and Examinations Section would, at the beginning of academic year (2024/2025), conduct special supplementary examinations for levels 100 to 400 (all under graduate students).
The release listed a number of criteria attached to development and urged students to take note of. The following are the attached criteria students are to take note of:
1. The special supplementary/resit examinations would cover both First and Second Semester courses.
2. There shall be ONLY ONE (1) special supplementary/resit examination for levels 200 and 300 courses per every Academic Year. That means students who do not avail themselves can only redeem themselves during the next resit period. Such students should have in mind the implications of accumulating more than 12 credit fails.
3. Level 400 students who are expected to complete their studies in 2023/2024 Academic Year but have failed lower-level courses in levels 200 and 300 are expected to register and write the special supplementary/resit examinations.
4. With effect from next Academic Year (2024/2025), students who fail a course(s) shall only redeem themselves during the special supplementary/resit examinations. They will not be required to retake the course with their juniors.
5. To qualify to write the special supplementary/resit examinations:

i. A candidate should have failed less than 13 credits.
ii. The candidate is expected to pay the appropriate resit examination fee which will be determined by the University from time-to-time. The fees for the special supplementary/resit examinations would be communicated in due course.
iii. The candidate should register for special supplementary/resit examinations. The registration process would be communicated by the Teaching and Examinations Section. Students who do not register shall not be allowed to take the examination.
iv. A candidate should have a continuous assessment before he/she can write the special supplementary/resit examinations. This means that students who have incomplete (IC) as a result of not having assessment do not qualify to write the special supplementary/resit examinations. The special supplementary/resit examinations shall be marked over 60 and shall be added to the continuous assessment score which the student would have obtained.
v. A candidate who accumulates or fails 13 credits does not qualify to write the special supplementary/resit examinations. That candidate shall be withdrawn outright for poor academic performance.
vi. The Timetable and venue for the special supplementary/resit examinations shall be communicated by the Teaching and Examinations Section. It is the duty of the student to report to the assigned venue on time for the examinations.
