NUCLEAR SAFETY AND SECURITY
DEPARTMENT
The Department of Nuclear Safety and Security is one of the five(5) departments of the School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences (SNAS). The School was jointly established by the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) in collaboration with the University of Ghana (UG) through the agency of the Faculty of Science and in co-operation with the International. Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna Austria.

The School Offers Accredited Master of Philosophy (MPhil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes. The department of Nuclear Safety and Security was established since the inception of the school in 2006 and it has been running Mphil/PhD programmes in Health Physics and Radiation Protection.
Currently, the department run two (2) main programmes and short courses as follows;
Main Programmes
- Mphil. Health Physics and Radiation Protection
- PhD. Health Physics and Radiation Protection
- Post Graduate Education Certificate (PGEC) in Radiation Protection and Safety of Radiation Sources
Short courses
Nuclear Security
Target Group: Security Services (CEPS, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, User and Licensees of radioactive materials and facilities)
Occupational Health and Safety
Target Group: All Users of lonizing Radiation ( Hospitals, Mining Industries, Oil and Gas Industries, Research, Transporting Companies etc.)
Job Prospects
Health Physicist work in a variety of disciplines including Research, Education, Environmental Protection, Health Sector, Regulatory Enforcement and Industry
