The University of Ghana, Legon has made significant revisions to its plagiarism policy, incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and taking a proactive approach to combatting academic misconduct.
The amended policy, titled “Policy on Plagiarism and Other Academic Misconduct,” has been approved by both the University Council and the Academic Board. Its primary objective is to uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethics in academic endeavours.

The updated policy provides clear definitions of academic misconduct, outlines preventive measures, and specifies appropriate sanctions. Notably, it emphasizes the importance of originality in scholarly pursuits and recognizes the prevalence of AI and related tools in academic assistance. However, it firmly states that any use of AI or associated technologies that undermine the authenticity of academic output will not be accepted, aligning with the University’s overarching commitment to academic integrity.
