UTAG, TUTAG walk out of a meeting with Fair Wages and Salaries Commission

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) abruptly ended a meeting with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) on Wednesday.

The associations expressed their reasons for the walkout, citing the commission’s perceived lack of good faith, contemptuous behavior, and a lackadaisical attitude towards discussing crucial aspects of their conditions of service.

UTAG and TUTAG emphasized that they could no longer tolerate the blatant disrespect and apparent lack of commitment shown towards their legitimate demands for improved conditions of service. Frustrated by the lack of progress, they made it clear that they would no longer participate in meetings that did not yield tangible benefits.

The associations issued a stern warning, stating that the voices of university lecturers would soon be heard in a language that the employer or the government would better understand. This statement indicates their intent to explore alternative means to have their concerns addressed and demands met.

The decision to walk out of the meeting serves as a significant demonstration of the unions’ dissatisfaction and their determination to fight for the rights and welfare of their members.
