Market women at Sogakope, the Capital town of South Tongu District in the Volta Region have gotten new market sheds to serve as comfort for them in their dealings in the market.
The sheds which was funded by the District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT) with an amount of Gh¢ 251,110.00 was awarded to YANDEG Company LTD, Keta which commenced on 15th September, 2020 and completed in November, 2020.
The facility consists of Eighty (80) cubicles and each shed contained Twenty (20) Cubicles, 150mm thick substructure block work up to 100mm thick over site floor concrete, Granolithic floor finish with ebonite strips to prevent cracks, 150mm diameter PVC pipe with reinforced concrete as columns up to 2.5m high, Carpentry works (Roofing members such as; Rafters, Purling and Roof beam), Pre-Coated Roofing Sheet, Numbering and Labeling of Sheds and Concrete paving in-between Sheds.
Speaking to Coverghana.com.gh Volta Regional Correspondence, Tabitha Kugbonu, Hon. Emmanuel Louis Agama, District Chief Executive (DCE) for South Tongu District said he has fulfil his promises of giving a facelift to the Sogakope market.
According to the DCE, several DCEs came but couldn’t address the challenges in the market because he has the market women at heart, he and his boss President Nana Akufo-Addo has brought relief to the market women.
He indicated that, if President Nana Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) retain the seat, he will make sure Sogakope market become one of the ultramodern markets in the country.
He stated that the two major markets in the district are the Sogakope and Dabala markets and most of the challenges they have been facing have been solved by President Nana Addo administration and NPP. The DCE used the opportunity to tasked the market women to vote for President Nana Akufo-Addo and NPP government come December 7th, 2020.
Rev. Johnson Avuletey, Deputy Volta Regional Minister indicated that, National Democratic Congress (NDC) party have taken Voltarians for granted over the years forgetting that, Volta Region is their world bank for gaining votes.
“Anyone who likes eating groundnut soup always can have a running stomach if okro soup have been presented to him/her to eat that’s why you don’t need to vote for Former President John Dramani Mahama and NDC party again because they do not have anything to offer to you again, he said”.
Togbe Atsuga Soga II, Divisional Chief of Sogakope said he was among other chiefs who had meeting with the DCE concerning finding a lasting solution to the challenges facing the market. He said although the DCE couldn’t solve all the problems, he did most of them and he thanked the DCE and the contractor for a good job done.
He urged everyone in the country to walk in peace before, during and after December 7th, 2020 general election.
Mama Azaglo (I), Sogakope Market Queen lauded the DCE for his efforts in bringing joy to the doorsteps for the market women. She promised to take good care of the facility.
