The Government One Teacher One Laptop Initiative has created a hullabaloo among Ghananian teachers as majority of them swiftly rejected the initiative introduced by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with Ghana Education Service and three Teacher Unions (CCT-GH, GNAT and NAGRAT).
The rejection of the laptops came following the 30% allocation of the laptop cost to teachers being deducted from their November salary at source by the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department.
The teachers have since served a notice to key stakeholders involved in the deal to immediately refund the amount of GH¢509.95 deducted from their salary or stage a nationwide demonstration as a means of registering their displeasure.
In clarifying issues on the subject matter, the President of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT-GH) Mr. King Ali Awudu has explained why Ghananian teacher needs the TM1 laptop manufactured by K.A Technologies Ghana.

According to him, teachers need the laptops to type examination questions, keep information, write lesson note, to be able to save soft copy of syllabus and textbooks and use pendrive to show one or two videos for smooth and effective teaching and learning.
In a video intercepted by Coverghana.com.gh m, King Ali Awudu said, “We realized that teachers need the laptops to type our questions, keep information, write lesson note, to be able to save soft copy of syllabus and textbooks and use pendrive to show one or two videos. Teachers don’t need the same specifications as someone going to use it for graphic design and typesetting”
