VIDEO: I’ll legalise okada and set rules for safety and security – Mahama restates
John Dramani Mahama has pledged to legalize the use of motor bicycles
The former President of Ghana and 2024 flag bearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has restated that he will legalise commercial motorbike operations (Okada) and set rules for safety and security if voted into the 2024 General Elections.
It could be recalled that the NDC in their 2020 manifesto promised to legalize Okada but they didn’t win power hence making the plan for commercial motorbike operations lie down unattended to.
Speaking at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region, he stated that his party has factored the “Okada” operations into their 2024 manifesto again therefore they are urging all Ghanaians to come out and vote for a positive change.
On safety, he stressed that when voted into power, National Roads Security personnel will be deployed to all the sixteen (16) Regions to sensitize and train riders on safety.

Mahama also stated that they have made provisions for introducing insurance cover for Okada riders to enable them to operate legally.
“Our 2024 manifesto will restate my promise to legalise commercial motorbike operations, ‘okada’. Okada riders and owners will finally be liberated in 2025 and can go about their business, insure their bikes, get licensed to ride okada, be free from police harassment, provide services to the many who need them, and fend for themselves and their families,” John Mahama.
