Mafi-Kumase market flooded after a heavy downpour
Mafi-Kumase Market in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region is flooded after a heavy downpour on Saturday, 26th March, 2022.
Report picked by Coverghana.com.gh saw gutters chocked and there is no free flow for the running water immediately the rain started.
The major part of the market is flooded including the main road along the market. According to the residents, improper site planning, indiscriminate dumping of refuse and the inability of the zoomlion to address pertinent issues are the major causes of the flooding.

Meanwhile, some of the residents have alleged that, after every market day on Monday, the zoomlion personnel sweep and gather the rubbish on the next day which is Tuesday but fail to collect after gathering the rubbish. The rubbish then spread all over where some even enter the gutters till the next market day.
The market women explained that, this issue has been reported several times but nothing has been done by authorities in charge.
A concerned citizen Mr. Lordson Anyrator in a interview with Coverghana said, there was a heavy downpour today around 3:00pm. He visited the market place and the major part of it got flooded.

Giving an account on what happened, he said, the gutters are chock making the running water spread all over the road and part of the market. He added that, it is serving as a death trap since residents cannot identify the path of the gutter as it is flooded.
“The whole place is flooded and needs an urgent intervention. If this is ignored, life might be lost after the next or continuous rainfall. We are not certain how the situation is going to be after the next rain” He explained.
Mafi-Kumase market is Located in the Central Tongu District of Ghana. It is one of the biggest market in the Volta Region of Ghana. This market serves the whole nation even international communities. The people in the area are basically into gari production among many.

Currently, Mafi-Kumase market has been facing major challenges including perennial flooding which need to be addressed.
The people are worried about their business as the next market day, Monday approaches.
They are appealing to NADMO, the District Chief Executive Mr. Thomas Moore Zonyra, the Member of Parliament Hon. Alexander Gabby Hottordze and other stakeholders who matters to immediately intervene to address the problem.
The people believe that, when the rain continues, it’s likely that, the market will completely be taken by flood which will negatively affect them.
