Volta Chiefs demand removal of Asikuma and Juapong checkpoints

The Volta Regional House of Chiefs has called for the immediate removal of the Ghana Immigration Service’s inland checkpoints at Asikuma on the Ho-Accra road, citing harassment by officers.
The President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, during a visit to the Jubilee House, also called for the police barrier at Juapong on the same road to be removed.
The chiefs accused some immigration officers of behaving rudely and sometimes detaining travelers against their will.
“Your Excellency, the Asikuma inland immigration post and the Juapong joint military and police barracks continue to be of concern to us as a region. Indeed, it is humiliating when travelers are asked to disembark from their buses, walk a certain distance, and then board again to continue their journey. We would be grateful if you could tackle this problem and solve it once and for all.”
President John Dramani Mahama assured that the government would review the concerns to protect travelers’ rights while enhancing security along these roads.
