Volta young Chiefs and Queens association hails John Mahama’s comeback

The Association of Volta Young Chiefs and Queens has congratulated President-elect, John Dramani Mahama on his victory in the recent elections.

In a statement signed by the group’s president, Togbe Komla Sakpiti V, the association expressed its admiration for the Former President’s impressive comeback, noting that it is a testament to the confidence Ghanaians have in him.

“For Ghanaians to make such a massive comeback for a president they voted against eight years ago means a lot, and we hope the president-elect doesn’t take this golden opportunity for granted,” Togbe Komla Sakpiti V stated. “Our hopes are high that the country will be reset as was promised by him, and we are confident that he will deliver on his campaign promises.”

The association also praised Mahama for his bold decision to maintain a female vice-presidential candidate, making history in the process. “A woman knows the needs of her children, especially fellow women, and with female-friendly policies like the Women’s Development Bank, we hope our women will feel part of the governance process,” the statement read.

The group further urged the president-elect to prioritize traditional authorities in resolving long-standing chieftaincy disputes, ensuring peaceful coexistence. Additionally, they called on Mahama’s administration to tackle corruption, which they believe is eroding the youth’s values. “Our youth are gradually being exposed to corruption, which is a bad attitude. We are sure they will be deterred once they see corrupt officials being punished,” the statement noted.

In addition to congratulating President-elect Mahama, the Association of Volta Young Chiefs and Queens also praised former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for exhibiting the peaceful person he’s been known for. They noted that Islam is peace, and Dr. Bawumia has indeed raised the image of this noble religion, especially in an election many thought would be violent. His concession speech before the official announcement by Ghana’s Electoral Commission reinforced Ghana’s democratic ethos, earning him accolades from leaders like Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The group wished the incoming government all the best and pledged their support in helping Mahama’s administration achieve its promises.
