The Minister for Trade and Industry-designate, Mr. Alan Kyerematen says his Ministry under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s Govermment is on the right path to addressing Ghana’s trade deficit.

According to Mr. Alan Kyerematen currently, between sugar, rice and poultry, the New Patriotic Party government has imported close to one (1) billion dollars worth of products. This underpins the decision of the President for Ghana to launch a comprehensive programme for industrial transformation, which his ministry has been leading.

Answering questions at the Parliament’s Appointments Committee, he added that basically, this transformation programme is anchored on two parallel tracks.

According to him, the first is to ensure that govermment produce to export. Secondly for govermment to produce for the purposes of import substitution.

Ghana and Nigeria hold talks on traders, related issues.

“We have very comprehensive interventions that we have put in place to build the capacity of local businesses to import-substitute and also produce these products for export. We’re already on the right path.” He explained.
