The Volta Regional Minister Honourable Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa has called on the people of the Volta Region to remain calm as the Regional Security Council commences investigation into a group of secessionists who have blocked a section of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) highway at Tefle in the South Tongu District, Juapon, and Aveyime-Battor Sege road in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region causing serious traffic jam at the Sogakope barrier and other parts of the Region in early hours of Friday, 25th September, 2020.
The Volta Regional Minister in an interview said, there is a serious joint security operations involving the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Military etc. across the affected areas in Volta Region to arrest the group of secessionists in the region.
Speaking further, Dr. Archibald Letsa has swiftly condemned the actions of the Western Togoland Group for bringing shame to the Region. According to him, about 95% to 98% of Voltarians do not support the activities of secessionists in the Region.
Meanwhile, a section of residents who spoke to Coverghana.com.gh news team off camera have endorsed the Western Togoland Independence agenda and are yearning for freedom and independence from Ghana now.
Dr. Letsa again reassured the people of the region that, three police personnel who were arrested by the secessionists will be rescued soon.
Earlier, the secessionists believed to be part of the Western Togol and independence agenda have cautioned the Ghana Police Service and the military personnel to immediately vacate the region or surrender power peacefully to the Western Togoland Security forces.
In the statement issued by the secessionists, they said, the restoration to Western Togoland statehood, under the leadership of Togbe Yesu Kwabla Edudzi I, is being consolidated. Togbe Yesu who is the Chairman of Western Togoland Restoration Front (WTRF), the political wing of the Western Togoland independence struggle is determined for Trans Volta Togoland Independence soon.
The press released intercepted by Coverghana.com.gh though has no signatory noted that, “Roadblocks to assert its sovereignty are all over the Southern sector. Vehicular and passenger movements have come to a standstill. for how long? Until Ghana agrees to come to the negotiation table, with expected UNO facilitation. All political activities within the new State are banned with immediate effect”
“Certain radio stations are temporarily designated Western Togoland (WTL) state radios till further notice, and all media houses within WTL are to focus their programming predominantly on WTL issues until further notice.”
“All Ghanaian security forces are ordered out of WTL within 24 hours and MUST NOT to take any weapons or ammunitions along with them.
“All detainees of Western Togoland independence struggle are ordered released immediately and all court proceedings relating to that are ordered terminated with immediate effect” The statement reads.
