Yamoransa Model Lab 7 clinches victory at 2025 National JHS Robotics Competition
The Yamoransa Model Lab 7, representing Nkonya Ahenkro in the Biakoye District of the Oti Region, has emerged as the champion of the 2025 Junior High School Robotics Competition. This prestigious event, held as part of the Annual Impact Roundtable Discussion (AIRTAD) and Robotics Competition, showcased the brilliance and ingenuity of young minds across Ghana.
The competition, which took place at the University of Ghana’s Cedi Conference Center from February 25th to 26th, 2025, saw participation from twelve Yamoransa Model Labs, each representing a different region. Now in its fourth year, the event continues to grow in significance, inspiring students to embrace technology, innovation, and problem-solving through robotics and integrated learning.
Sponsored and partnered by the Helping Africa Foundation, Yamoransa Model Labs, the Ghana Education Service (GES), Academic City University, Implementers, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), TechAid, and various other stakeholders, AIRTAD is making a profound impact on education in Ghana.
Yamoransa Model Lab 7’s victory is particularly remarkable, as they successfully defended their title after winning the 2024 edition. Their achievement highlights the transformative power of the Yamoransa Model Lab initiative, which is shifting students from basic computer literacy to hands-on problem-solving using robotics and integrated learning. Through this program, students are developing the ability to connect classroom theories to real-life applications, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and innovation.
In addition to the team’s success, the GES Representative for Yamoransa Model Lab 7, Victor Kwabena Opare-Addo, won the Best National GES Representative Award for 2025. This marks his second consecutive win, as he also received the same honor in 2024. His dedication and commitment to the success of the Yamoransa Model Labs have been widely recognized.
During a roundtable discussion at the event, Victor Kwabena Opare-Addo emphasized the importance of collaboration in ensuring the sustainability of the program. He stated, “With strong partnership with tech companies and the government, we can achieve support and sustainability for the Yamoransa Model Labs in Ghana.”
“This program is changing the way students think and react to situations around them,” remarked one of the event organizers. “Our students are gradually becoming inventors and creators. Imagine the transformation in our education system if this lab program is expanded to every district.”
