The Member of Parliament for the North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region of Ghana, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has admonished his colleagues politicians to direct developmental projects to their various constituencies and must implement policies in the interest of their people and must not risk the lives of the people through any unlawful means.

“Politicians should be sending development to their constituencies and implementing policies that extend the life expectancy of constituents not to take up arms and risk the lives of the very people who employ us.” He said.

According to the Ranking Member on Foreign Affairs, politicians should avoid using weapon/arms or must be devoid of any attempt by using weapons to risk the lives of the very people (civilians) who voted them into the Ghanaian Parliament.

Mr. Ablakwa’s statement was in connection to the conduct of the Minister of Special Development Initiative Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson who is the Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya East Constituency, and on Monday, 20th July, 2020 went to one of the Electoral Commission’s registration centres within her constituency with “thugs” and have admitted firing a gunshot at the centre.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa strongly argued that, politicians don’t necessarily need  weapons and ammunition to protect themselves within their constituency when they truly serve the interest of their people and protect them. According to him, the constituents will rather serve as security personnel to protect politician from all weapons in the world that may be may used against them when they feel protected. “When you truly serve the people and show them respect, you wouldn’t need guns; the people will rather protect you from all the weapons in this world.”

The unpredictable young and promising Lawmaker expresses worry and disappointment over the attitude of a colleague Member of Parliament who serves as a Minister of State. He is therefore calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to immediately remove her from office as a Minister and she must be made to face the Laws of the land. “Brutish Mavis Hawa Koomson cannot continue to hold public office and she must not be allowed to get away with this.” He proposed.
