The National Deputy TEIN Coordinator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. Ekow Djan says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo strives on lies, empty promises and  deception to become President of the Republic of Ghana.

Mr. Ekow Djan noted with grave concern, how President Nana Addo misled the Ghanaian citizens in the December 2016 General Election to get the opportunity to lead this country but not to the extent of refusing to pay the much-talked about teacher trainees allowances he promised to ‘restore.’

He made the statement following the President’s inability to pay allowances due trainee teachers for the past six months. Allowances have thus been in arrears since March 2021, putting teacher trainees under severe discomfort and hardship.

According to the former National Deputy Secretary of the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG), President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has failed his contract with Teacher Trainees across the Forty-Six (46) Accredited Public Colleges of Education in Ghana.

Akufo-Addo’s government fails to pay teacher trainees allowances for a semester

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government under the presidency of Nana Addo, who promised to pay allowances to Teacher Trainees monthly has failed to honour the promise to the vulnerable students.

Mr. Ekow said, the failure of the President to make life comfortable for these hardworking trainees is a breach of the social contract between trainee teachers and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, when he promised to consistently pay allowances if given the nod to serve as President of the Republic.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang breaks silence on cancellation of teacher trainees allowances

“The wanton failure of our father, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to pay trainee allowances can no longer be tolerated, given the harsh living conditions in the country.”

The Tertiary Education Institute Network (TEIN) is therefore calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to as a matter of urgency clear the six month allowance arrears owed teacher trainees, with immediate effect.
