President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s New Patriotic Party government owes teacher trainees allowances for four (4) months.
Information available to Coverghana.com.gh has confirmed that, the allowances of teacher trainee across the Forty-six (46) Accredited Public Colleges of Education in the country are in arrears for four (4) months.
Leadership of the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has asserted that, they cannot predict when the outstanding arrears of teacher trainees allowances will be paid.
Speaking to the National President of TTAG Mr. Jonathan Dzunu said, they are putting in their maximum efforts to engage with the authorities on behalf of the teacher trainees for a better outcome as they expect of them.
The TTAG President cried for trainees saying that ‘some students have not seen their last semester results because they could not pay their exams fees as a result of non payment of allowances.
Continuing, Mr. Dzunu said, trashing the arrears will cause a great harm to the ‘poor’ trainees. A lot of teacher trainees depend solely on the allowances disbursement from Students Loan Trust Fund.
Moreover, Student loan assured the payment of the arrears but a specific date was not relayed.
“Our allowances for May and August, for the 2020/2021 academic year have not been paid. We have met officials from the Student Loan Trust Fund, they have told us that they are putting plans in place to make sure the money is released to us.”
“We intend to meet other stakeholders, We are even hoping to reach the President and get to know our fate.”
