A document sighted by coverghana.comĀ  indicates that the President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Akufo Addo has with immediate effect revoked the appointment of the Chief Executive of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly Hon. Gilbert Ken Asmah.

In the letter sighted on citinewsroom addressed to the minister of Local Government and Rural Development Hon. Hajia Alima Mahama, she was asked to act as the Municipal Chief Executive of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly.

REVOCATION OF APPOINTMENT OF MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE FOR
TARKWA-NSUAEM MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY IN THE WESTERN REGION

By virtue of Article 243(3)b) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana and Section 20 (3)(b) of the Local Govermance Act, Act 936, His Excellency the President has revoked the appointment of Hon. Gilbert Ken Asmalh, Chief Executive for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly with immediate effect.
In this regard, you are requested to Act as Chief Exccutive for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly and exercise oversight responsibility over the Assembly until new Chief Executive is appointed.
By copy of this letter, the out-going Municipal Chief Executive is requested to hand over properly to you before leaving office.

BACKGROUND

In the immediate past, some executivesĀ  of the New Patriotic Party in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Gilbert Asmah because they had lost faith in the MCE.

The party members claimed that they had lost faith in the MCE and called for his removal from office for non-performance.

In response to the allegations, Hon. Gilbert Asmah indicated that they want him to sack all civil servants at the municipal assembly perceived to be members of the National Democratic Congress.
