Bernard Sanders is an American politician and activist who has been the senior United States Senator representing Vermont since 2007. From 1991 through 2007, he served as the state’s at-large congressional representative. Sanders is the longest-serving independent in the history of the United States Congress. He has deep ties to the Democratic Party, having caucused with House and Senate Democrats for the majority of his congressional tenure.
