The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah revealed that, the heart of the Republic of Ghana, Accra is 85% cleaned.
Speaking to the Media, the Minister disclosed that, the “Cleanest City in Africa Agenda” as promised by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2017 is 85% successful with making Accra the cleanest city in Africa.
President Nana Adoo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on 24th April, 2017 after wining the 2016 presidential election promised to make Accra the Cleanest City in the Africa Continent by the end of 2020. Though the president’s declaration met a lot of criticism and doubt by some Ghanaian nationals, the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources has said, effort to realize the president’s intention is 85% successful.
The Minister who toured some part of Accra around Nima on Tuesday, 11th August, 2020 said, her Ministry in collaboration with government has done a great work by making Accra clean. Notwithstanding that, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah said more efforts including public education, sensitization programmes on cleanliness among others are needed to fully achieve the president’s intention.
“When we don’t do these things of throwing rubbish into the drains, the drains will be clearer and neater and our homes will also be clean because the Assembly has been tasked to send round the tricycles to pick up our waste.”
“So I am telling you and I know you will quote it that, we are 85% through [with making Accra the cleanest city]. You all saw the 100% we achieved during the lockdown. So the question is, who makes Accra dirty? She explained.
