The Community Policing Assistants (CPAs) has Petitioned President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to recruit them into the Ghana Police Service.

In a statement written to the Office of the President through Chief of staff at the Jubilee House-Accra, said, they have been working with the Ghana Police Service for the past four (4) years and had acquired much experience, knowledge and skills regarding policing and security during this period in Ghana.

According to them, acquiring these experiences, knowledge and skills, make their members competent and best fit to be considered for recruitment into the Ghana Police Service.

“It must also be noted that, our hard work, commitment and positive attitudes towards work have since been recognized by individuals and institutions including the very institution we work with (Ghana police service)” They said.

In the joint petition signed by the National President Kofigah Foster, National Organizer Seth Henaku Sakyi, Acting National Secretary Godfred Kpodo of the Community Policing Assistants (CPAs) Nationwide are appealing to the highly respected office of the Commander In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to consider their plights and recruit them into the Ghana Police Service.

“Again, considering the fact that, it is every government’s responsibility and dream to curb the unemployment menace in the country, so recruiting us into the Ghana Police Service would aid the efforts to achieve that dream.”

The Association further said, recruiting their members into the main stream of the Ghana Police Service would serves as means of massing up the Police Service since there is a deficit as to police personnel is to the population.

Community Policing Assistants (CPAs) is of the firm believe that, recruiting them to the existing number of Ghana Police Service Personnel will help reduce the crime rate in the country.

The Association, in the petition copied to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Interior, Speaker of Parliament, Acting Inspector General of Police and Youth Employment Agency said, they hope the President consider their plights on the numerous reasons outlined which they believe would be enough rationale on the subject matter.

ROLE OF COMMUNITY POLICING ASSISTANTS (CPAs)

The Community Policing Assistants (CPAs) performs the following roles among many across the length and breathe of Ghana.

1.  Interface between the community and police.

2. Power of arrest

3. Obtain intelligence for police

4. Assist in the formation of Neighborhood Watch Committee

5. Join police patrol as and when

6. Patrol-visibility and accessibility

7. Sensitisation/Education of the civilians

8. Charge office duty

9. Traffic duty and many more

10. Stationary and electronic surveillance

11. And any other lawful duty that the police may assign them.
