The renowned Counsellor, an educationist Daniel Fenyi has taken the Vice President Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia through an elite class of the twenty first century on Economic figures verse what he describes as a “Home Sense”
According to Counsellor Daniel Fenyi, having listened to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia speaks on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration infrastructural development on Tuesday, 18th August, 2020 on government’s Virtual Town Hall and Result Fair meeting at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS), he felt that, the Vice President lacks basic understanding on economic figures.
Counsellor Fenyi therefore offered a pieces of advice to him saying “Dr. Bawumia should stop doing footsoldier-like hollow Economic analysis, especially so when, aside being a Vice President, he holds PhD in Economics and Chairs Ghana’s Economic Management Team.”
He made references to the Vice President’s presentation where he compared the cost of four interchanges under president Nana Addo’s government to one interchange constructed by former president John Dramani Mahama. According to Counsellor Daniel Fenyi, it illogical to compare an interchange which cost USD260 Million under John Mahama to four interchanges which cost USD289 Million under President Nana Addo without considering certain factors such as, location of the project, materials used for the project, nature of the project among others.
“Therefore, they have delivered (many same products) at a cheaper cost. Was he expecting the Costs to be the same just because the products are similar?” He quizzed.
“As Counsellor Daniel Fenyi, though not an Economist, basic home sense tells me that the cost of pursuing a Degree in Medicine is about 10× the cost of pursuing a Degree in Psychology, are they not both DEGREES? The cost of Land at East Legon is 100× higher than the same-size plot of land in Agona Swedru, my hometown. Are they not both lands? The total Cost of 50 Picanto cars does not come near the cost of just 1 Ferrari F60 car, though both are cars. Must the cost of establishing KNUST be the same as UDS just because they are both UNIVERSITIES? Come on!” He explained.
He further argued that, “As an Economist, He must be aware that “Cost” is determined by several factors hence his comparison is shallow, unEconomist, unPhD, too political, laughable and BECE candidate-like. By the way, the Circle Interchange is the Biggest interchange in Ghana, must it have same cost as the smaller ones put together, necessarily?” He jabbed the Vice President.
In a contrarily view, Counsellor Daniel Fenyi said, it could be the case that John Dramani Mahama might have bloated the costs of the interchange for personal gains, however, Dr. Bawumia’s argument and logic are grossly warped. He is fast losing his intellectual appeal to the mercy of partisanship. An advantage he’s throwing to Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
“I hope this piece is read without politics. I am a Counsellor who comes to the table with a lot of passion and love for Ghana, and some appreciable home sense.” He concluded.
