Sir David Frederick Attenborough is a British broadcaster, naturalist, biologist, and author. He is best known for co-creating and presenting the nine natural history documentary series that comprise the Life Collection, a comprehensive survey of animal and plant life on Earth, with the BBC Natural History Unit.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Attenborough was a top management at the BBC, having served as controller of BBC Two and head of programming for BBC Television. His filmography as a writer, presenter, and narrator spans eight decades, beginning with Zoo Quest in 1954 and including Natural World, Wildlife on One, the Planet Earth franchise, The Blue Planet, and its sequel. He is the only individual to have received BAFTA nominations in black and white, color, high-definition, 3D, and 4K resolution. He has received scores of honorary degrees and medals over his career, including three Emmy medals for Outstanding Narration.
According to NPR, he “roamed the globe and shared his discoveries and enthusiasms with his patented semi-whisper way of narrating”. He is widely regarded as a national treasure in the United Kingdom, however, he does not accept the title. He is the younger brother of the late director, producer, and actor Richard Attenborough, and the older brother of the late automobile executive John Attenborough.
