Dec. 2020 Polls: John Mahama lists Conditions under which he can concede defeat

The 2020 Presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama has explained circumstances under which he will accept defeat in this year’s Presidential election .

Mr. John Dramani Mahama rejected the results of this year’s Presidential election as announced by the Electoral Commission with the explanation that the result of the election are flawed.

However, the NDC’s Presidential candidate has stated circumstances under which he will accept the results of the election and concede defeat.

According to John Dramani Mahama, he will only accept the outcomes of the election that he has lost if an independent audit is done on the results.

“If an independent audit is done on the EC’s results and the outcome proves that I lost the elections, I will accept it and walk away as done in the past.

“But as long as an independent audit is not done and knowing that there was a deliberate attempt to subvert the will of voters by the government and the EC, it will be wrong on my part to let it go,” Mahama added.

The former President also added that, he cannot accept the results of a discredited elections because he is a principled Democrat.

John Dramani Mahama said “In my principles as a democrat, I cannot accept the results of a discredited elections. I can’t be seen to be sweeping it under the carpet and let it go”.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, declared Candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo winner of this year’s Presidential election.

According to the Electoral Commission, Candidate Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo obtained6,692,630 votes (51.2%) and John Dramani Mahama also obtained 6,170,492 votes (47.2%).
