The Vice President of the republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has met with some traders from Makola and Okaishie markets.
According to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, during his meeting with the traders, some of the traders vented their grievances and some of the challenges they gave in their businesses.
During the meeting, the traders narrated stories of alleged intimidation, bullying and harassment by some Ghana Revenue Authority – Official and Accra Metropolitan Assembly officials through audits, seizures, shop closures among others.
Following the grievances vented by the traders, the agencies responsible for mobilizing revenue for the state ie the Ministry of Finance, GRA and the city council have been tasked to come up with a friendly system of collecting revenue that will ensure easy assessment of and compliance with taxes.
Present at the meeting were: Hon. Yaw Osafo Maafo (Senior Presidential Advisor), Hon. Abena Osei Asare (Deputy Minister for Finance), Mr Amishadai Owusu Amoah (Commissioner General, Ghana Revenue Authority), Mrs Georgina Kusi (Member of the Council of State) and other officials.
