The Executive Secretary to the Vice President, Ghana, Augustine Yaw Blay has spoken on the use of the Ghana Card as an e-Passport.
Speaking in an interview on ‘The Probe’ on Joynews, Mr Augustine Yaw Blay stated that the Ghana Card contains a chip that an e-visa can be placed on.
“On March 1st, 2022, all airports worldwide will be told to let people coming into the country use the e-passport. Nevertheless, you cannot use the e-passport to travel outside the country. You need to apply for your visa normally” the Executive Secretary to the Vice President, Ghana, Augustine Yaw Blay stated.

ABOUT GHANA CARD BECOMING AN E-PASSPORT
The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana on 11th February, 2022 made a statement in which he stated that the Ghana National Identity Card has now been approved by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to recognized globally as a valid e-passport/ID card.
In practical terms according to the vice President, this means that it will now be faster and more effective for border control authorities to verify the identity of holders of the Ghanacard.
