- The Ghana Airports Company Limited, GACL has sent a message to all airports and airlines on the use of Ghana Card as e-Passport.
- Earlier, the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has approved Ghana Card to be used as an e-Passport.
The Ghana Airports Company Limited, GACL has sent a message to all airports and airlines to allow holders of Ghana Card to travel to Ghana without Visas.
E-Passport: Ghana Card permits travels across 97 borders and 44,000 airports worldwide
In an announcement sighted by CoverGhana stated that the
“Following a “Key Ceremony” at the headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada, on 9th February 2022, Ghana’s National ldentity Card (the GhanaCard), is now duly recognized globally as a valid ID card-passport, a Machine Readable Travel Document (MRTD) that can be read and verified by the ICAO Public Key Directory (PKD) at most airports.
Ghana Airports Company Limited announces to all airports and airlines that, holders of a valid GhanaCard should be allowed to board Flights to Ghana, without the need for a visa.
This takes effect from 1st March 2022.”
