Residents of Feyito communities in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region have received support from Hon. Wisdom Kobena Mensah Woyome to address water crises in the area.
The Member of Parliament, as part of his agenda in addressing water crises in some part of his constituency has donated a S-8,500 litre polytank to the Feyito communities on Sunday, 13th February, 2022.
According to the MP, the Polytank donated will be used to store potable drinking water for the residents of Feyito, a community compromising of four sub-communities with a population of about 300 residents.
The beneficiary communities are Feyito Adzokatsekope, Feyito Amewuzakope, Feyito Horgakope and Feyito Amewuzakope all in the South Tongu District.
The hardworking MP said, he will ensure that, a tanker supplies water to fill the polytank as a seed money for the community, so that, they can get money for constant supply of water.
The donation was made by the Member of Parliament following a request from the people of the communites to the MP to supply polytank to temporarily solve the water crises.
The MP has so far donated about twenty (20) durable polytanks to some deprived communities within his Constituency. The recent among them were donation of polytanks to Awusakpey, Hlevi and Feyito respectively.
According to the residents, water crises is one of the many challenges affecting them. Mr. Patrick Amewuza and Comfort Hoggar, speaking on behalf of the residents of the four communities explained that, they sometimes buy water from Tefle-Kpotame, Vume etc. to perform their daily activities.
Narrating their ordain, they said, “We are grateful for the polytank donation because, in the dry season, we don’t get water for our daily activities. We fetch water from a dagout or have to pay GH¢1 for one “Kufour gallon” before tricycles bring water to us. Sometimes, we have no other choice than to buy sachet water for bathing, cooking, drinking etc.”
Aside the water crises, they also expressed their disastisfaction towards President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government for bad road network linking the communities, lack of school and clinic/hospital near them etc.
“No vehicle come to the community during the raining season. We treck a long distance to access the nearest clinic. This situation is largely affecting us. We appeal to Akufo-Addo to turn his attention to derived communities like ours” The residents said.
They also explained that, there is no school in the community. Pupils find it very difficult to attend school in the nearby towns.
The residents are therefore appealing to President Akufo-Addo to construct their roads, build school and clinic for the Feyito community.
Responding to some the issues raised, Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome said, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government started water projects in South Tongu but, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo NPP-led government has abondoned the projects.
He also explained that, the NDC government extended electrification project to most of the communites in South Tongu. According to him, NDC would have completed all projects in South Tongu if they had won the 2016 and 2020 elections.
Mr. Woyome said, NPP Politics is affecting good governance in Ghana especially South Tongu.
He urged the constituents not to be discouraged because, there’s hope when NDC comes to power again.
The MP, after the donation has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to quickly intervention to permanently address challenges facing the people including, water crises, poor road network, lack of clinic and school.
