Former GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi reveals his greatest achievement

Kwesi Nyantakyi, former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), recently shared that his most significant achievement during his tenure was the qualification of the Black Stars for the 2006 World Cup.

Ghana’s participation in the global tournament marked a historic milestone as it was their first-ever appearance. Nyantakyi holds this accomplishment in high regard, considering it a defining moment.

The Black Stars continued to secure qualification for two more World Cups before Nyantakyi’s departure from the football scene.

In an interview with Starr FM, Nyantakyi emphasized the significance of the team’s qualification, stating, “Qualifying for the World Cup in Germany was my greatest achievement.”

Since then, Ghana has participated in four World Cups, with their most recent appearance being in the 2022 edition held in Qatar. Nevertheless, it was under Nyantakyi’s leadership that the country ended its long wait for World Cup qualification, making it an unforgettable moment for him and the nation.

However, Nyantakyi’s time in football administration came to an end amidst allegations of bribery and corruption violations. He resigned from his positions as GFA President, CAF Vice President, and FIFA Executive Council member.

Initially, FIFA imposed a lifetime ban on Nyantakyi, but this ban was later reduced to 15 years following his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in October 2020.
