Former NSMQ contestant with 6As needs over GH¢3,000 to further his education at UG

Former National Science and Math Quiz (NSMQ) contestant, Abande Prince Abugri, hailing from Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, is facing a critical decision about his education due to financial limitations.

He had 6As in his WASSCE. However, due to financial constraints, he is likely to stay home. Prince needs GH¢3,142 to further his education at the University of Ghana, Legon (UG).

Prince was a member of the Navrongo Senior High School (NAVASCO) team that participated in the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz, progressing to the one-eighth stage of the competition.

During his time at NAVASCO, Prince was recognized as the overall best science student during the school’s speech and prize-giving day. He was also the recipient of the Best Problem-Based Learning Student award, an innovative initiative introduced by the Science Department of NAVASCO and Prof. Millar, which requires students to utilize scientific concepts to solve environmental issues.

Upon completing his studies, the 19-year-old achieved outstanding results, obtaining 6As and 2Bs in the West African Senior School Certificate Education (WASSCE).

However, despite his academic brilliance, Prince is currently facing financial constraints that may prevent him from pursuing his education further. He has been offered admission into the Engineering Sciences program at the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, University of Ghana.

This admission to the University of Ghana is a significant milestone for Prince, but unfortunately, the financial burden he faces threatens to undermine all the hard work he has invested to reach this point.

According to the admission letter available to 3news, Prince is required to register promptly before Thursday, February 8, 2024, in order to secure his position as a student at the university. However, he must first pay an admission fee of GHC3,142 before gaining access to the registration process.
