GES approves Tug of War and Pillow Fight in Basic and Second Cycle schools

The Ghana Education Service has approved the introduction of Tug of War and Pillow Fight in Basic and Second Cycle Schools across the country. This decision was made following a request by a federation seeking official permission to introduce the sports at the Pre-Tertiary Education level.
Tug of War is a sport where two teams pull on opposite ends of a rope, trying to drag the other team towards them. The team that succeeds in pulling the other team over a designated line wins the game.
Pillow Fight, on the other hand, is a game where two or more players engage in mock combat using pillows as weapons. The goal of the game is to hit the other player with the pillow while avoiding getting hit oneself. It is typically played in a light-hearted and humorous manner.
In a letter signed by the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, the federation was informed that approval had been granted for the introduction of the two sports. The federation was also asked to liaise with the PE & Sports Unit to plan and organize programmes and activities for the introduction of Tug of War and Pillow Fight.
The Ghana Education Service expects that the introduction of these sports will help to unearth and nurture young talents in the country and encourage them to participate in district and school activities without disrupting teaching and learning periods.
Regional Directors have been requested to officially inform Metro, Municipal and District Directors and Heads of Second Cycle Institutions of the approval granted for the introduction of Tug of War and Pillow Fight in schools.
Management expects that the federation will strictly adhere to the directives to ensure the smooth and continuous running of the sports in schools. It is hoped that this decision will provide an avenue for students to develop their athletic abilities and promote healthy competition among peers.
