GES reinstates Headmaster of Tsito SHTS after investigating alleged diversion of 100 cartons of Tin Tomatoes

Management of Ghana Education Service (GES) has reinstated Rev. Joy Kafui Akpebu, the Headmaster of Tsito Senior High Technical School, after investigating the alleged diversion of hundred (100) cartons of Tin Tomatoes.

According to GES, in a statement on Wednesday, April 26, 2025, it was stated that the Service has established no evidence linking the alleged diversion of 100 cartons of Tin Tomatoes intended for students’ meals in the Volta Region.

REPORT ON THE ALLEGED PILFERING OF TINNED TOMATOES BY THE STOREKEEPER OF TSITO SHTS

At 2:08 PM on Friday, a video alleging that a Golden Dragon bus belonging to Tsito Senior High School (SHTS) was seen offloading 100 cartons of tinned tomatoes along the Sokode Gborgame-Akrofu road.

The cartons were reportedly being loaded into a taxi, destination unknown.

According to the Headmaster, Rev. Joy Kafui Akpebu, the storekeepers of Tsito SHTS and Awudome SHS were dispatched on Thursday, 16 January 2025, to collect their allocated provisions: 10 bags of Tom Brown cereal and 50 packs of tinned tomatoes for Tsito SHTS, and 20 bags of Tom Brown cereal and 150 packs of tinned tomatoes for Awudome SHS.

The storekeeper at Tsito SHTS further alleged that, in addition to the official allocation, one Elorm Pius Bansah—a staff of the Regional Free SHS Secretariat and a son of Mrs Fidelia Dorleku, the Regional Free SHS Coordinator had loaded an extra 100 packs of tinned tomatoes onto the bus.

These additional packs were allegedly intended to be offloaded at a designated location along the Sokode-Akrofu road for subsequent delivery to Elorm’s private store.

After the allocated supplies were delivered to Tsito SHTS and Awudome SHS, the 100 additional cartons reportedly remained on the bus without the knowledge of either Headmaster.

On Friday, 17th January 2025, the headmaster instructed the bus driver to have new tyres fitted to the vehicle in preparation for a scheduled trip to Ehi in the Ketu North Municipality.

However, during this errand, the driver and storekeeper allegedly used the opportunity to offload the 100 cartons of tinned tomatoes along the Sokode Gborgame-Akrofu road.

The driver of the taxi with registration number GR 5051 U has been apprehended to assist with the ongoing investigation. Efforts are underway to determine the full scope of the incident and establish accountability.

Upon inspection of the items issued to Tsito SHTS and Awudome SHS, it was confirmed that all allocated supplies remained intact, with no shortages reported. Food items for schools.

Fast forward, on the 18th of January, 2025, GES interdicted three (3) officers of Tsito SHTS in the Volta Region.

Rev. Joy Kafui Akpebu, Headmaster of Tsito Senior High Technical School, Sylvanus Awunyo, Storekeeper, and Samuel Kwame Ampeh, Driver, were interdicted pending an investigation into the alleged diversion of 100 cartons of tin tomatoes intended for student meals in the Volta Region.

This decision is in accordance with Section 8, Clauses (i-v) of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Code of Conduct, which authorizes the interdiction of staff who may interfere with an ongoing investigation.
