GNAT increases monthly Cancer Fund contributions for teachers

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has increased the controversial monthly Cancer Fund contributions for teachers from GH¢2 to GH¢5 per month.

This means that, effective January 2022, the Cancer Fund contributions shall no longer be GH¢2 but rather GH¢5.

The resolution to increase the Cancer Fund was approved at the just ended National Delegates Conference of the Association held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Great Hall, Kumasi scheduled for 2nd January, 2022 to 9th January, 2022.

The resolution issued by the Association has affirmed the GNAT Cancer Fund increment to GHȼ5.00 by the National Delegates Conference.

Earlier, the Association in a notice intercepted by said, the current monthly contribution by teachers cannot sustain the cancer fund as demands keeps increasing.

The leadership of the Association said, there is a need to increase the current monthly contribution of GH¢2.00 to GH¢5.00 per a teacher per month.

According to Association, the cancer center treats all types of cancers except Cancer of the blood but patients with this type of cancer will get refund from the cancer fund for their treatment cost. The benefit of the fund covers one’s life even after retirement.

Leadership of the Association explained that, the beneficiaries of GNAT Cancer are the contributor, his/her spouse and two children below 18 years of age.

The Fund is in collaboration with the Sweden Ghana Medical Centre (SGMC), a state-of-the-art oncology center for the treatment of cancer.
